The winery was founded in 1992 in Roßbach near Naumburg an der Saale with around 25 hectares of vineyards.
The Saale-Unstrut wine region is one of the most northern growing regions in Germany / Europe and looks back to a 1000-year tradition. Viticulture is mentioned as early as 998 in a deed of gift from Emperor Otto III.
The Herzer winery grows 75% white wines.
